Rehabilitation Services To Marginalized Persons With Disabilities (PWDs)

Disability regardless of social status carries a significant economic burden for both the person with disability, the immediate family members and the community at large. For the marginalized individual with disability rehabilitation services are only remotely possible.

In this context, the Foundation strives to reach out and extend rehabilitation services to these individuals in the urban and rural setting. In cooperation with physiatrists (specialists in Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine) and its allied medical professionals, expert evaluation, program planning, physical,  occupational and speech therapy, assistance in obtaining orthotic and prosthetic needs, use of assistive devices, education and long-term preventive measures are made available and possible through linkages and support  by governmental ang non- governmental agencies.

Build Medical Rehabilitation Facilities In Partnership With LGUs.

To assist local government units in fulfilling their mandate of serving the disabled population in their respective localities and ensuring its sustainability, the foundation offers its assistance in building rehabilitation facilities, planning, acquisition of basic equipment  and ensures the presence of a physiatrist as  team leader in its clinical and functional operations.

Support Research and Education

RESEARCH

While disability occurs worldwide, there are a great need to promote LOCAL RESEARCH that addresses the cultural, social and behavioral practices which are unique and relevant in the prevention and management of disability in our region. PARM being the premier national organization of experts in Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (PRM), the Foundation extends its support to the Academy’s research efforts.

EDUCATION

The Foundation supports PATIENT EDUCATION of PWD’s who are functional and can be trained to be productive and self-sufficient members of their community. They will be recommended to undergo skills/livelihood training. Linkages with various livelihoods training center shall be established for this purpose. Funding as needed shall be provided by the Foundation. During various disability awareness celebration activities, patient education and disease prevention lectures shall be hosted at selected barangays in coordination with the respective PARM Chapters

The Foundation also supports PHYSIATRIST EDUCATION through the various residency training programs of the Philippine Board Rehabilitation Medicine (PBRM). Activities will be hosted to update and improve physiatrist education, as well as providing financial assistance for sub-specialization trainings in PRM abroad.
